A water jet uses a high pressure pump to fire water through a hole as small as 0.28mm at pressures of up to 3600 bar. A small amount of fine grain abrasive is added before the water leaves the nozzle, making it capable of cutting almost anything. The material of choice is laid on a bed of slats and a computer controlled head moves around and cuts through the material as required.
Our water jet bed is 4 metres long and 2 metres wide. We are able to cut steel and other materials up to these dimensions.
Our water jet cutting machine is a Swiss-made Bystronic Byjet 4022 capable of cutting just about anything other than diamonds and some glasses.
The thickness limit for non specialist materials like steel, stainless steel and aluminium is 100mm. The thinnest we would attempt to cut with a water jet would be 2mm.For materials below 6mm thick we would always recommend a laser cut where possible for speed and efficiency.
The water jet is unrivalled for versatility and there is no other tool capable of cutting materials as varied as copper, plastic and granite as well as it does.
As with our laser cutters, we use AutoCAD and Radan to maximise material usage and guarantee that as many units as possible will be cut from each sheet.
If you provide drawings in DXF or DWG format our software can take your drawings and put them straight into production. Follow this link to get a water jet cutting online quote.
